“For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.” — 1 Samuel 15:23
Today’s Insight ✨
This powerful verse comes from a moment when the prophet Samuel confronted Saul for disobeying God’s command. God had given Saul clear instructions, but Saul chose to follow his own judgment instead of fully obeying the Lord.
Through Samuel, God delivered a strong message: rebellion and stubbornness are serious in God’s eyes. The verse compares rebellion to witchcraft and stubbornness to idolatry because both place human will above God’s authority.
This story teaches an important spiritual principle—partial obedience is still disobedience. Saul tried to justify his actions, but God looks beyond excuses and examines the heart.
For believers today, this verse reminds us that obedience to God is not just about outward actions but about having a heart that truly honors His Word. When we stubbornly insist on our own ways instead of following God’s guidance, we risk drifting away from His best for our lives.
